Recent times have seen me take charge of a Christmas project - involving street art!
Hutt City Council put a call out for artists to paint tree-shaped cutouts to decorate the High Street in Lower Hutt this festive season. Street Art Trees began in 2020 with 10 wooden trees and more trees are being added this year (at 1.8m tall they are hard to miss!)
I 'brushed up' on some old digital skills (see what I did there?! ha) and designed a tree based on elements from Hutt Art's mural/logo then recruited a few local artist friends from Hutt Art and began the task of painting. It was fun, and a challenge to pull it all together, but great to have many people - all different ages, skill levels, and artistic styles, pull together for this project to brighten the community.
Next year I think I'll paint another tree but put my own spin and style to it where it will join the magical forest of others on the street before Christmas. I have so many ideas already! What would you like to see?
